Chardonnay's California road to fame began in the late 19th century, when vines were first planted on the fertile lands of the "golden state". This is how exquisite, refined wines were born. California Chardonnay triumphed at the famous 1976 blind wine tasting in Paris. As a result, the status of American winemaking was fundamentally changed. Partly because the victory over the best French white wines was won by a chardonnay from California.

Meet the California Chardonnay Festival from the family run winery Wente. This is a unique winery that created the first varietal Chardonnay in the United States. About 80% of American Chardonnay vines come from those brought from France by the Wente family.
